Demurest of the Tabby Kind

The last few days haven't been much fun for me. Friday night I was on my way to a jazz concert when I got a phone call from my dad. He told me that my kitty had stopped using the litter box and it was probably time to put her down. She's been sick for a while. She was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about a year ago and treatment hasn't worked. She eats a ton but has been losing weight so she was just skin and bones. The last few weeks she hasn't been grooming herself so her hair had gotten all clumped and matted. This weekend she stopped using the litter box.

Saturday morning Dad called me again and said that we needed an appointment to euthanise her. Our usual vet didn't have anything until today at 4, when I would be at work, and we didn't want to wait too long because she wasn't doing well at all. He called around and found a vet's office that could get us in first thing this morning. So early today I went with Dad to the vet's and said goodbye to my cat.

She was a very good kitty. I got her when I was in 4th grade so she was about 15 years old. That's a fairly long life for a feline. Even though I didn't take her with me when I moved out, she was still very much my kitty. I'm really sad.

I'm not going to say much more because I think I might start crying again if I do. Instead, here are some pictures for you:

New Additions

There was a huge pet adoption thing this weekend in my fair city. I didn't go... was pretty busy not-camping (sad... but I had fun anyway). Roommate did go and she couldn't resist the cuteness so she came home with a cat.

This is River Tam (yes, we are that geeky). Before Roommate adopted her she was Charlotte, but we have a dear friend named Charlotte, who is actually very allergic to cats, and that would be weird... having a cat named after Chaye.

Anyway, River is 5 years old but tiny for her age. She's a little blind so her eyes look a little weird. She's super sweet, almost to the point where she is annoying. She's been following me around all morning getting under my feet and purring. Now she's sitting on my lap, which is better than where she was a minute ago- on my keyboard. What a good kitty.

I am a little worried, of course. We don't have a history of being the cleanest humans ever so I'm a little concerned about having gross cat mess all over. Also River is not de-clawed so I'm a little worried about my new couch. Roommate is getting a big scratching post though and neither of us have really seen River do much to shred the furniture.

She really is very sweet. Here's another picture of her doing the cute kitty thing.

Inspirationed

I was inspired by this website and my new camera phone to take the following pictures. I'm amazed that Leo sat there and let me pile stuff on him. He doesn't seem concerned at all.

Goober twins: Cosmo on the left, Rosie on the right. They think they're cute

Gooberrific

I'm house-sitting my Grandma's condo this week. She has two very spoiled kitties who can't be left alone for too long. Well, they can, but they don't like it and, like I said, they are very spoiled. They really are sweet felines though, I call them the Goober Twins. They don't look like twins, but they did come from the same littler. Cosmo is huge and fat and an attention whore. You can't sit down without him jumping in your lap. He's got some siamese in him too, so if you do something he doesn't approve of you REALLY hear about it. Rosie, his sister, is a sweet little calico. She's more aloof and wild than Cos. When she does decide to be a nice 'lap' cat, she prefers to sit on either my chin or neck. She's a good little goober. Anyway, last night they kept themselves busy by hiding my car keys under a dresser. That made it fun for me when I tried to leave for work and discovered I had no way of unlocking or starting my car. Ok, so I could have broken a window and hotwired it, but that's a little sketch. Anyway, I looked under half the furniture in the condo before I found them. Cosmo and Rosie followed me around and were rewarded by many little baubles they had hidden under various couches and bookshelves. It'll all be back under furnature by the time I get back there.
